The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) is strongly committed to protecting the privacy of its online guests, customers, members, donors, and friends. We believe that maintaining privacy on the Web is very important and that informing our visitors about the types of information we collect and how we use it is crucial. When You Purchase a Membership
FIAF will ask you to provide the information necessary to process and service your membership: name, billing and email address, telephone number, and credit card information. For reasons of security, credit card information is not stored permanently on the Web server. You may also be asked for additional information required to complete and service your request, such as the names of your children when joining as family members. We may also ask you about your interests so that we may keep you informed about events and programs that may be of interest to you.
When You Register for Classes
FIAF will ask you to provide the information necessary to process and service your Language Center registration: name, billing and email address, telephone number, and credit card information. For reasons of security, credit card information is not stored permanently on the Web server. You may also be asked for additional information required to complete and service your request, such as the names of your children who are registering for classes. When You Complete an Online Survey
FIAF occasionally posts surveys on its site. These surveys are completely voluntary and may ask about your interests, occupation, and educational background. We use this information only to have a better understanding of who is interested in our programs and services and to determine how best to serve you. Specific information collected in these survey forms is never shared with third parties.
When You Make a Donation
FIAF will ask you to provide the information necessary to process your gift and provide you with our donor benefits: name, billing and email address, telephone number, and credit card information. For reasons of security, credit card information is not stored permanently on the Web server. We may also ask you about your interests so that we may keep you informed about events and programs that may be of interest to you.
We regularly send email newsletters and notices of upcoming events to our members or parties who have requested specific categories of information. Use the ‘receive Newsletter’ form at the top of this page to subscribe. You may unsubscribe to an email newsletter or notice at any time.
Occasionally, FIAF may email persons requesting information, members, students and/or donors to inform them of changes in this Web site or our online policies. If you do not wish to receive any email from FIAF, please send an email message to firstname.lastname@example.org with subject line ‘Do Not Email’.
We read every email message that we receive. We also try to respond within two business days of receipt. If you email FIAF, your message and email address will be forwarded to the appropriate department within FIAF. This department may choose to save your information in case you decide to contact us again.
Language Center emails: When you register for a class at the FIAF Language Center, we encourage you to provide us with an email address at which you can be reached. We will use this email to contact you with important information regarding your class, such as, registration confirmation, room & instructor assignment, change in class schedule, cancellations, etc. We will also send you emails about start of sessions, early-bird discounts, upcoming workshops or classes that may interest you, etc. Please note that while you are a student at FIAF, we reserve the right to contact you via email, while ensuring that your information and privacy are protected.

How FIAF Uses Information Collected on our Website
FIAF never shares with third parties any information you provide when purchasing a membership, registering for class or making a donation. Occasionally, we may share the information you provide (when completing an on-line survey or requesting information: name; postal and/or email address) with other organizations or companies whose products and services might interest you. If you would prefer not to have your information shared in this way, you may check the “please do not make my name available” box located at the bottom of the page on which you have completed the survey or requested information.
We might use third parties to provide specific services (process orders, credit cards billing). These companies do not share or use personally identifiable information for any secondary purposes beyond filling your order.
When the user signs up for these services, we will share names or other contact information that is necessary for the third party to provide these services. These parties are not allowed to use personally identifiable information except for the purpose of providing these services.
This website contains links to other sites. Please be aware that we are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of any other site that might collect personally identifiable information.
FIAF might request information from you on orders or registration forms whereby you must provide contact information (name, address…) and financial information (credit card). This information is used for billing purposes and to fill your orders. Wherever we collect sensitive information (such as credit card data), that information is encrypted and transmitted to us in a secure way.
FIAF makes every effort to ensure that all of the transactions that occur on its website are secure. While we use encryption to protect sensitive information transmitted online, we also protect your information offline. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job (billing, customer service) are granted access to personally identifiable information. The computers/servers in which we store personally identifiable information are kept in a secure environment. If we have trouble processing an order, we’ll use this information to contact you.
Children 12 and Under
We do not solicit personal information from children. In any section of the site that requests personal information, visitors 12 years of age and under are reminded to obtain permission from an adult before supplying the requested information. In addition, FIAF does not advertise or promote commercial products or services in any section of the site intended specifically for children
