Nicolas Pariser, 2015. 100 min. Color. DCP. With Melvil Poupaud, André Dussolier, Clémence Poésy. In French with English subtitles.
When a mysterious individual hires literary has-been Pierre Blum to write a fabricated radical manifesto, the struggling novelist soon realizes he is a pawn in a drawn-out game between government operatives and subversive forces. Loosely based on several real-life cases, this engaging thriller delves deep behind the scenes to capture a political climate of paranoia and manipulation that is not unique to France.
Though The Great Game has all the trappings of a great spy movie—including an ambiguous love affair—it is first and foremost a sophisticated work of political analysis.
Struggle for Life is presented as part of "Young French Cinema", a program of UniFrance and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy.
Series curated by Delphine Selles-Alvarez and Léonore Chastagner.
