Writer
Ananda Devi presents an evening of discussion on the exploration
of identities and their formation through language.
Île Maurice, the island on which Devi was born, has
formed the linguistic core of her writings. There, she received
exposure to a multitude of languages, all of which shaped
her self-perception as a writer. Sensitive to the overlap
of identities and languages, as well as an ethnologist by
training, Devi seeks to explore the role language serves
in shaping cultural identities.
Join this prize-winning author for an intimate discussion
on how her background, both personal and intellectual, influenced
her writing.
Moderated by Thomas C. Spear, Professor of French at Lehman
College and the Graduate Center of the City University of
New York (CUNY), and founder of île
