Guillaume Gallienne, 2013. 85 min. DCP VOSTA.
With Guillaume Gallienne, André Marçon, Françoise Fabian, Nanou Garcia, Diane Kruger, Reda Kateb.
In French with English subtitles.
An effeminate young man has to come out as straight to his wealthy family, who are convinced he is gay. Based on a wildly successful play, this uproarious autobiographical tale is a one of a kind coming of age story and an acting tour de force, with writer/director Gallienne playing his younger self—and his eccentric mother! It is also an unexpected love letter to women and mothers in general, a wry and affectionate portrait of the women who made Gallienne the man that he is.
Stephen Mann is a writer and comedian based in New York. He has studied and performed comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade, the Annoyance Theater, the People’s Improv Theater, and the Washington Improv Theater. He has also performed at comedy festivals in New York, DC, Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina. He graduated with an M.A. in Linguistics and Literature, so that’s why he’s smart enough to introduce the film.
