About à petits pas: French for Toddlers

“It was our daughter, Annabelle's first “à petits pas” and she started from 11 [months]. She took 2 classes a week, and both were wonderful. She really loved it and I loved it also. We want to continue to be committed to FIAF classes and we recommend FIAF to all our friends.”
—Kyoko, à petits pas Mom

“A great program—well organized and run with a great teacher. My daughter is enjoying the program and I look forward to her continuing her studies.”
—Kristen, à petits pas Mom

à petits pas

Immerse your petit in French language and culture at FIAF!

FIAF's popular à petits pas program introduces toddlers to French through a structured curriculum enhanced with games, songs, dance, yoga, and arts-and-crafts projects.

Specifically designed for children ages 1–4 by experts in early childhood education, the program uses multi-sensory and teach-by-play techniques to help children develop cognitively, socially, and emotionally. Creative, themed classes taught entirely in French allow your child to seamlessly become familiar with the language from a young age.

The à petits pas program promotes a gentle immersion experience in small groups to ensure individual attention for each child. The bright and spacious classrooms in FIAF's beautiful Upper East Side building were specially designed to encourage play and learning. A light snack is offered at each class.

Parents receive vocabulary lists, selection of phrases, as well as Spotify song playlists for continued learning and fun at home. Emails are sent to parents on a regular basis to keep them abreast of the program including special events.

Classes are grouped by age, from ages 1 to 4, and offered over a course of 11 weeks, Mondays–Saturdays, with numerous times available. You can enroll for a once per week class, or register for multiple classes too.

Classes available for complete beginners, native French speakers, and everyone in between.

Additionally, our weekly workshops with themes such as cooking, art, music, theater, and more, provide toddlers with creative enrichment through fun activities in French.

à petits pas Policies

à petits pas for ages 1 to 3 (APP1, APP2, APP2/3, APP3): One parent or caregiver per child must attend class with his/her child(ren). Each parent or caregiver is responsible for the well-being of his/her child and is strongly encouraged to participate in the class.

à petits pas for ages 3 & 4 (APP3/4, APP4) is a drop-off class. Toddlers need to be potty-trained and accustomed to attend class on their own to attend APP3/4 or APP4.

If a child becomes disruptive, FIAF asks that the parent or caregiver take him/her out of the class until he/she calms down in order to preserve a constructive learning environment.

Strollers are not allowed in the classroom. A designated area is provided for strollers.

Please do not bring children to class when they are ill.

Additional children are not allowed in the classroom. No outside toys or snacks are allowed in the classroom. Please do not use cell phones or electronic devices while the class is in session.
