Dive deeper into French culture with themes that change each session.

Culture shapes the way language is structured and the ways in which language is used. Expand your linguistic skills while exploring themes as diverse as pop culture, history, society, politics, philosophy, everyday life, and more. Using a variety of media—novels, films, documentaries, news articles, and more—you will have the opportunity to delve deeper into each topic. This course is designed for the culture addict who would like to learn more about French and other Francophone cultures, as well as become more independent in speaking in French about more complex and challenging topics. Themes will vary from session to session.

Discovery of the Loire Valley

In this course, you will discover the Loire Valley, its history (the way of life of the French kings), its famous artists (Honoré de Balzac, Alfred de Ronsard…), some masterpieces of French architecture (castles, abbeys, cathedrals…), its gastronomy and its wines, and the life of its wild river.

This course is for you if you are interested in French history, art, regional gastronomy or if you want to know more about local French wine.

By the end of this class, you will have a good knowledge of one of the most visited areas in France and its different cultural aspects. You will get a lot of new vocabulary and will progress in writing short texts in French.

In this course, we will take a look at the history of feminism in France. We will analyze how women in France fought for their rights and when they achieved important legal rights. We will also take a closer look at 5 French women (Olympe de Gouges, Georges Sand, Marie Curie, Simone de Beauvoir, Simone Veil) who played an important role in France’s history. We will discuss their lives, their thoughts and theories, as well as their accomplishments. In the end, we will debate and talk about the role/place of women in France today. This course is for you if you like French history, feminism, and women’s rights. It is also for you if you would like to discover important French personalities. This course is for you if you like to debate about French society and the evolution of mentalities.
