Job Title: Director of Individual Giving
Department: Development

Position Overview:
FIAF is seeking an experienced Director of Individual Giving to be an integral part of our dynamic External Affairs team. Reporting to the Vice President of Development, the Director of Individual Giving will join the organization at a thrilling time of growth and development. This role offers a unique opportunity to design new programs and creatively engage a diverse community of supporters. The Director of Individual Giving will oversee FIAF’s individual giving program, targeting both general operating support and restricted support for key educational and arts initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of building programs for sustained giving, and be passionate about the arts and education with a genuine interest in deploying their fundraising skills in a vibrant non-profit organization.

Responsibilities:
• Create and lead a new strategy focused on high-impact individual giving, in conjunction with existing and future patron groups
• Design compelling cases of support for our programs, in partnership with relevant program officers
• Develop creative strategies for cultivation and stewardship. Plan and execute donor cultivation events
• Manage a portfolio of donors and prospects, serving as a direct liaison and overseeing
• Lead department research on existing constituents, new prospect research upgrades. Oversee the advancement of the moves management system to meet objectives
• Conceptualize, create and manage a dynamic annual and long-term individual fundraising strategy, including digital fundraising, direct mail campaigns, and monthly giving program as appropriate
• Develop a planned giving communication strategy and plan for any patron groups necessary
• Work with database administrator to develop and deliver donor analysis reports, utilize data and metrics to benchmark efforts and develop programs
• Work within the external affairs team to align individual-giving goals and actions with the global strategy that includes Board engagement, fundraising events, institutional fundraising, major gift campaigns, and membership
• Set ambitious growth goals; develop and execute a strategy to attain them
• Ensure accurate gift recording, tracking and acknowledgement
• Inspire the team to collectively build a broad sense of community around FIAF’s mission, programs and audiences served

Qualifications/Requirements:
• Knowledge of New York City philanthropic network, best practices and resources, with a focus on the arts and educational sectors
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage with key stakeholders
• Excellent writing, editing, research, proofreading and budgeting skills, with exceptional attention to detail
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, meet multiple deadlines, and manage projects
• Discretion in handling confidential information, ability to exercise good judgment and initiative
• Proficiency with basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) Proficiency with Raiser’s Edge database or another constituent database preferred
• Knowledge of French is appreciated, but not required

Position Overview:
FIAF is seeking a dynamic, creative, and experienced Film Curator to join its team. The position involves reimagining FIAF’s film program at large to propose a strategic vision for presenting French and Francophone films throughout the year. The Film Curator will play a critical role in program development, film selection, and fostering partnerships to enhance FIAF’s visibility and impact in the film and cultural community. This position reports directly to the Director of Cultural Affairs.

Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement a strategic vision to increase visibility, attendance and build a more diverse audience for film programming at FIAF

In addition to cultural and educational programming, FIAF has a robust rental program. With three exceptional and versatile event spaces, FIAF hosts rental events annually, including performances and film screenings, movie shoots, fundraisers, conferences and business meetings, and private parties.

FIAF’s Manhattan location has the Florence Gould Hall Theater, a classic jewel-box theater which has state of the art sound and projection equipment and a seating capacity of 361; the multi-purpose Tinker Auditorium, a flexible and modular space which can accommodate events for 110-300 people; and Le Skyroom, a flexible space on the top floor of FIAF’s building, which can host small to medium gatherings with 100-225 people.

Position Overview:
FIAF is seeking a dynamic and experienced theater and venue professional to serve as General Manager (GM). The GM is a key member of the senior management team, reports directly to the President, and their work is executed in close partnership with the Cultural Programming, Development, and administrative departments.

The GM will develop operational systems and build internal culture that will support the mission and strategic goals of FIAF. They will manage workflows and collaboration across multiple departments and will oversee production, rentals and events, and operational teams. This role requires a strategic thinker and strong leader with a passion for French culture, who can ensure that our operations, venue management, and cultural programming run smoothly, efficiently, and at the highest production quality.

Key Responsibilities:
• Design, develop, and implement systems, policies, and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness across all operational areas
• Oversee the day-to-day operations of FIAF, ensuring successful planning and execution of cultural programs and events, visitor services operations, and facilities maintenance
• Review, analyze, and evaluate event execution and operational procedures according to organizational objectives and apply improvements
• Perform high-level negotiations and contract vendors, clients, crew, and cultural programming partners
• Forecast financials to ensure business objectives and event revenue goals
• Lead, manage, and develop the production, operations, box office, and rentals teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment
• In partnership with the senior leadership team, develop FIAF’s annual schedule of cultural programming and events; oversee and maintain the institutional calendar

Production:
• Lead technical staff, including production managers, technicians, and projectionists, ensuring seamless, collaborative, and high-level execution of cultural programs and events at FIAF
• Collaborate closely with the cultural program team to present a wide range of artistic programming including theatrical productions and film festivals
• Liaise with artists and creative team members, including designers and directors, to service the needs of productions
• Collaborate closely with the development team to service the needs of institutional events at FIAF, including donor and cultivation engagements
• Develop, manage, and track production and operational budgets, ensuring cost-effective resource allocation

Box Office:
• Collaborate with Programming’s Director of Cultural Affairs and VP of Marketing and Communications regarding all box office events and ticket sales

Rentals:
• Develop and oversee the rental program, setting strategic and earned revenue goals and optimizing space use for events
• Coordinate and lead on relationship management between FIAF and rental clients; act as the primary liaison on all matters related to rental sales and agreements and provide exemplary service on all matters
• Supervise event managers, ensuring client satisfaction and operational efficiency
• Collaborate with marketing colleagues to promote venue spaces and rentals

Visitor Services:
• In partnership with the senior leadership team, develop FIAF’s visitor services ethos and standards
• Oversee front of house teams, ensuring efficient service and a welcoming environment for guests, patrons, and clients
• Establish policies and procedures that cultivate a customer service culture committed to equity and access

Building Operations:
Facilities:

    • Oversee the maintenance team, including janitorial, engineering, and utility/HVAC, to maintain facility standards and address any operational challenges promptly
    • Ensure that maintenance work is scheduled in coordination with FIAF’s program and rental calendar
    • Develop short and long-term plans for the upkeep and improvement of FIAF’s facilities
    • Initiate and manage capital projects to address required issues in a timely, effective, and cost-efficient manner
    • Contract and manage relationships with external vendors

Safety and Security:

    • Provide management of all ongoing aspects of building and workspace security
    • Oversee the periodic review of FIAF’s policies and procedures for fire, health, safety, disability access and emergency evacuation; ensure that they comply with applicable regulatory codes/standards
    • Ensure that all necessary permitting for the facilities are obtained and up to date

Qualifications/Requirements:
• Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills, with the ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and external partners
• Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills and a strong drive to establish new systems and to evaluate and improve existing processes
• Technical knowledge and deep experience in production, including co-productions and presentations
• Understanding of technical aspects involved in box office/ticket services
• Extensive experience with contract management
• 5 to 7 years of experience in general management and/or operations management, preferably within a theater, cultural, non-profit, or events management organization

Qualifications

  • Have at least 1 year of comparable experience (French immersion or bilingual program)

The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) in Montclair is looking for an After-school Assistant. Under the supervision of the Language Center Manager, the Assistant is responsible for planning, organizing, and leading daily after-school activities such as games, crafts, etc. for children enrolled in extended care.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide a warm and caring atmosphere for children.
  • Maintain a safe environment for children.
  • Prepare and implement after-school activities that are developmentally appropriate for the age of the children, such as games, crafts, etc.
  • Keep the room neat and orderly.
  • Follow and enforce all safety policies.
  • Assist with children check‐out.
  • Communicate with the parents through daily pick‐up.

Qualifications:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Intermediate to advanced level of spoken French, enough to understand and speak with children, teachers, and parents without relying on English.
  • Previous experience working with preschool aged children (babysitting, camp counselor, nanny, au pair…)
  • Possess basic knowledge and understanding of preschool aged children.
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  • Be a self‐starter and perform their job with little supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, motivate students and lead groups.

Schedules: The position of After-school Assistant is seasonal. 1 and 20 hours worked weekly between 2:30pm and 6:30pm, Monday through Friday (up to 222 days / 888 hours worked annually). The hours worked on a daily basis may vary; a work schedule will be issued on Friday for the following week.

The working hours are 10am-6pm.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as liaison between the administration and the teaching staff (two teachers and two assistants).
  • Develop enrichment activities for the children (arts, music, gym etc.)
  • Supervise children during lunch and recess.
  • Organize and chaperone field trips.

About FIAF:

Position Overview:

The Office Manager plays an important role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the office environment. Their responsibilities encompass various administrative tasks, including (but not limited to) overseeing office supplies, mailing, and supporting all departments with general admin. They serve as a central point of contact for employees, clients, and vendors. Additionally, they are responsible for organizing office procedures and implementing systems to enhance productivity. Ultimately, their contribution is critical in fostering a productive and harmonious work environment.

Main responsibilities may include, but not be limited to:

Administration

• Mailing (including USPS, FEDEX, UPS etc.) including preparing summary for postage machine
• Troubleshooting and helping with any issues for copy machines, postage machines, etc. (liaising with copy machines servicing company)
• Liaising with vending machines located on the 4th floor
• Overseeing the coffee machines situated on different floors of the building, by maintaining milk and coffee supply to all staff daily. Clean and check machines weekly. Bring Nespresso recycling bags as they get full to Security for pick up by UPS
• Assisting with planning company employee events
• Providing clerical support when needed to assist clerical staff with assigned administrative duties
• Making copies of checks, recording on Excel spreadsheet, scanning checks to correct departments and to accounting
• Process and distribute mail to FIAF staff. Date everything with a stamp of the current date
• Getting signatures for orders or invoices from various departments
• Verifying and confirming of all vendors invoices for approval by departments heads

Supplies

• Ensuring that office, grounds, equipment, and supplies are maintained and serviced
• Preparing, negotiating, analyzing, and reviewing contracts for equipment, supplies, materials, services, and products
• Overseeing company-wide office supplies and needs (inventory, ordering, follow-up, pick-up, returns, etc.) Ordering all papers for the copy machines, both on the 3rd and 7th floors. In charge of ordering and managing inventory of FIAF stationery. In charge of ordering and managing business cards

The Montclair Branch of the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) is looking for a full-time Assistant Teacher for its à petits pas Excellence program, a French immersion program for toddlers ages 2.5 and 5. The Assistant Teacher will be responsible for supporting the teachers with the planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate activities designed to promote social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth in preschool aged children. The position includes after-school care responsibilities.

Responsibilities and Tasks

• Assist teachers in the implementation of the curriculum.
• Assist teachers with preparation of lesson plans.
• Assist teachers with the organization of classroom activities.
• Assist teachers with administrative tasks including but not limited to tracking students’ daily attendance, communicating with parents about daily classroom activities.
• Assist teachers in conducting part of the program remotely and online, if necessary.
• Assist teachers in maintaining a proper learning atmosphere.
• Prepare necessary material for classes.
• Supervise children during lunch time, recess, and nap time.

Requirements and Skills

• Be eligible to work in the U.S.

• Have 1 year of comparable experience as a Teacher Assistant in a program for children under six years of age.
• Have a love for teaching children and the ability to build a trusting relationship with students, teachers, and parents.
• Be familiar with preschool administrative tasks and learning methods.

• Be firm but have a kind personality.

Responsibilities

                      • Teach French classes in person Tuesday through Saturday. Teaching schedules can change from session to session.
