at FIAF! An ideal place for a French excursion, the Haskell
Library welcomes school
groups of all ages for a cultural and educational experience.
A visit to the FIAF Library may be held as part of an all-day class field trip to participate in other
French-related activities in New York City, such as the FIAF
Young Audience Program, viewing the French art collections at the Metropolitan or MOMA
Museums, visits to French bakeries and shops, attending a movie, or eating
lunch in a French restaurant.
Program
- Welcome by the Library Director and a presentation of the French Institute Alliance Française
- Tour of the Library by the Library staff and presentation of materials: periodicals, language-learning
materials, books, etc.
- Discussion with a Library staff on the importance of learning French
- Fun educational activity (song, game, etc, depending on the language level of the students)
- 20-min Q&A session on France or the French-speaking world with a Library staff member
- Possibility of focusing on an educational theme studied in class
Details
Length of stay: 1 hour maximum
Time of visit: The library is able to receive school groups on Fridays from 10–3 pm
Capacity: 25 students + faculty
Requirements: Students must have at least 2 years of French to be able to participate in the educational activities. Different class levels may be combined for the visit. At least 1 adult chaperone for each 10 students is suggested.
