FIAF will welcome esteemed French actor and comedian Sami Frey in Samuel Beckett’s acclaimed work, Premier Amour. On April 9 and 10, Frey will inhabit Beckett’s poetry and wit for two nights only of special performances.

Cinema According to Véra Belmont

FIAF will celebrate France’s “Grande Dame” of cinema for the last 45 years with a new CinémaTuesdays series entitled, Cinema According to Véra Belmont. The series will examine the prolific artist’s dual roles as blockbuster producer and director with six special screenings, including a guest presentation by Jackie Raynal of the Oscar-winning journey into prehistory, Quest for Fire, and a visit from Véra Belmont herself, for the New York premiere of her latest film, Surviving with Wolves.

This March, FIAF will shed more light on the art world’s increasing interest in paper as a creative medium with a new exhibit from French artist Odon. In Weaver of Dreams, the acclaimed Odon will bring his luminous spiral paper works to the FIAF Gallery and America for the first time, showcasing this traditional material in a breathtaking and revolutionary way.

FIAF will celebrate the upcoming Francophone Month with a special CinémaTuesdays film series spotlighting contemporary Belgian cinema. Throughout March, The Whimsical World of Belgian Cinema will offer screenings of nine works representative of Belgium’s vivid and eclectic film industry, including a New York and a U.S. premiere and a presentation of When the Sea Rises, featuring its star and director, the critically acclaimed Yolande Moreau.

The Gallery of the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF), will be featuring artist Greg Lauren from February 4-March 6, 2010, in a site-specific installation of new works on paper called Counter Couture. For his fourth solo exhibition in New York, Lauren explores the role fashion plays in the development of identity and the obsessive nature of detail, from collars to cuffs.

Over the course of eight films, including the U.S. premiere of Persécution (2009), and a screening of the rare Charlotte For Ever (1986), FIAF’s Charlotte Forever series will showcase the actress’s enigmatic allure and charm.

Jane Birkin for two evening performances on her Enfants d’Hiver World Tour.
On February 11 and 12, Birkin will make a single stop in New York at FIAF, returning
