After living in the United States for 5 years as an illegal alien, Ruben Figueroa, 35, returned to Mexico where he devotes his time to searching for “Desaparecidos” men, women, and children who disappeared along the dangerous journey north. Each year, hundreds of migrants go missing while attempting to cross the US border at the hands of drug cartels, corrupt police officers, or smugglers. Some succumb to the brutal desert landscape, others are executed, and many go into hiding to avoid the shame of failing to enter the US. This short but poignant film offers a sobering look at Mexico’s migratory roads as Figueroa pieces together scant clues—a photo, a tattoo, a name—to bring closure to desperate families.
