By the Grace of God is the true story of three men, Alexandre (Melvil Poupaud), François (Denis Ménochet) and Emmanuel (Swann Arlaud), who expose a priest who abused them as boys. The three men go to great lengths to denounce the perpetrator and the institution that protected him, an endeavor that endangers their relationships with loved ones, as well as compromises their own well-being.

The film is based on the true story of Philippe Barbarin, Cardinal of Lyon, who was convicted in March 2019 for concealing the conduct of Father Preynat.

“[Ozon] crafts a film that is engrossing from the start, while building to something greater and more emotionally encompassing.” — New York Times
