Hailed by critics upon it’s 2013 release, Laurence Anyways is the story of Laurence (Melvil Poupaud) and Fred (Suzanne Clément), a couple living in 1990s Quebec. The film documents 10 years of the couple’s life, together and apart, as they’re confronted with people’s prejudices and phobias in response of Laurence’s choice to live his life as a woman.

“(…) in the film’s marvelous opening sequence — he perfectly evokes the violating effect of a stranger’s scrutiny and the imponderable depths of a lover’s gaze.” – New York Times

“Poupaud’s quiet moments convey a lofty, poignant introspection, and Clement erupts with grand, if scattershot, furies.” – Richard Brody, The New Yorker
