Join Julien Moreno, Head Sommelier from Benoit, as he introduces you to five delicious red wines from the Languedoc region of France, one of the world’s largest wine producing regions.

On a journey from the past, into the present, and towards the future, you will learn more about the region’s rich wine history, its shift towards environmental growing techniques and organic wines, and its important cru designations.

Julien Moreno

As Head Sommelier at Benoit, Julien Moreno brings more than a decade of experience in the wine and hospitality industry to Benoit, with previous notable positions across prestigious restaurants in New York City.

    • Born in Nimes, France, Julien’s first experience in the restaurant industry was in London at Nobu Berkeley, where he rose up the ranks and became captain in six months. Later, he moved to New York City and returned to the restaurant industry. During this time, Julien worked in many restaurants to polish his skills, including Benoit New York in 2009. During this initial time at the restaurant, he joined the American Sommelier School under the supervision of André Compeyre and Andrew Bell. He became a certified sommelier in 2010 and began pursuing the path to a full- time career as a sommelier.

      Before joining the Benoit team, Julien worked at Promenade des Anglais, Mihoko’s 21 Grams, Betony, Bowery Meat Company, and Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare, where he had the chance to work along Chef Cesar Ramirez.

      As Head Sommelier at Benoit, Julien oversees the beverage program, ensuring Alain Ducasse’s exceptional standard of wine service is implemented.

      Outside of wine, Julien enjoys staying active, trying out new restaurants in the city, and spending time outdoors with his son.
