Scottish soldier Private Plumpick (Alan Bates) is sent on a mission to a French village to disarm a bomb set by the retreating German army. Plumpick soon encounters a strange town occupied by the former residents of the local psychiatric hospital. Assuming roles like Bishop, Duke, barber, and circus ringmaster, they warmly accept the Plumpick as their King of Hearts, who starts preferring their company to the insanity of war. Since its debut more than 50 years ago, this satirical look at the absurdities of war has remained a worldwide cult favorite. Courtesy of Cohen Media Group
