On Saturday June 3, we welcome families back for the last TILT Kids Day before summer break — this time, exploring the theme of la fête (celebration)! Join us for a giant family party and enjoy the most wonderful aspects of celebrations: dancing, music, and time spent together.
The day kicks off with a family story hour focused on celebratory French and English classics. Be amazed by a one-of-a-kind mime performance with TILT festival favorite Broken Box Mime. Capture the moment with a family portrait and take part in a collaborative exhibition by The Anonymous Project. Make your own musical instrument and a festive party outfit. The celebration day ends with a huge all-ages dance party!
Homecoming Exhibition Tour & Collage Making
10:30am–3:30pm
FIAF Gallery, 1st Floor, 22 East 60th Street, NYC
All Ages • Every 30 min • In English and French
Enjoy a mini tour of the FIAF Gallery exhibition, Homecoming, and then help to create a collective collage of family photos!
Part of The Anonymous Project, Homecoming is a unique photography installation that celebrates family, parties, and special occasions. We invite younger audiences to explore the photo exhibition for inspiration in taking their very own family photo. Kids will take a photo of their families and then add their photo to a collective family photo collage. Pick a fun pose, choose your props, and snap a photo that becomes part of The Anonymous Project installation for a day.
Create Your Own Musical Instrument
10:30am-3:30pm
FIAF Skyroom, 8th Floor, 22 East 60th Street, NYC
Ages 3 & up
Use recycled materials to create your own musical instrument in this fun workshop led by Alí Bello, violinist and Associate Music Director of The Brooklyn Orchestra (BKO).
Cans, lids, and water bottles transform into drums, maracas, and miniature guitars. Be amazed as these unconventional objects become musical creations through a few adjustments and lots of decorating. Use your newly-created instruments to make some music: drum out a rhythm, shake out a song, and get in the mood for a dance party!
This workshop offers an exclusive preview of BKO’s newest kids’ program that will launch this fall at their new home at ShapeShifter Plus in Park Slope. The program will offer hands-on workshops, imagined and tailored by its musicians for aspiring young artists.
