Steeped in the nostalgia of 1990 Quebec, When Adam Changes embodies the (literal) growing pains and general absurdity of adolescence. Adam is a 15-year-old with an unusual and deeply embarrassing quirk: his body melds and warps in reaction to taunts and criticisms from his classmates. Through this darkly comedic narrative, Canadian director Joël Vaudreuil incisively illustrates what happens when the biting and fantastical mix with trademark teenage angst. The film, animated by French artist Nicolas Moussette, was awarded the Grand Prize for Best Animated Feature at the 2023 Ottawa International Film Festival.

When Adam Changes (Parce que Films, 2023) is his first feature film. In addition to directing music videos, he has also directed several animated short films, including La vie magnifique sous l’eau (2015), Le courant basse de la rivière (Jutra Award, 2013), L’enfant aux 6 hot-dogs (2011), Un vortex dans face (Jutra nominee, 2010), and La récréation du midi (2009). Vaudreuil is also a musician and member of the bands Avec pas d’casque, Moussette, Le Diable (comme l’outil) and Cheval Fou.
