Considered director Jean-Pierre Bekolo’s magnum opus, this superbly photographed, stylishly edited, and beautifully scored film centers on two young femme fatales who set out to rid a futuristic Cameroon of its corrupt, powerful men. The story combines elements of sci-fi, action, and horror as its characters navigate a sordid world where sex, money, politics, and death perniciously overlap. Reveling in its display of excess while staying committed to the aesthetics of cool, it’s one of Africa’s first—and most influential—science fiction films.
