Test de Connaissance du Français for Canadian Immigration


What is the TCF Canada?


TCF CANADA is intended for anyone 16 years of age or over, regardless of their nationality or native tongue, needing to certify their level of French as part of the procedures for economic immigration to Canada or for obtaining Canadian citizenship.  Therefore, the applicant must file a case with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

TCF CANADA is an accredited test from IRCC and will also be recognized by the Ministry of Inclusion, Francization and Immigration (MIFI) for an immigration application in the province of Québec from May 1, 2022.

There is no exemption case for TCF Canada.


TCF Canada Format


TCF CANADA is made up of four compulsory tests assessing general French language skills:

  1. Listening comprehension: computer-based collective test – 39 multiple-choice questions (4 answer choices, one correct answer) – 35 minutes
  2. Reading comprehension: computer-based collective test – 39 multiple-choice questions (4 answer choices, one correct answer) – 60 minutes
  3. Written expression: computer-based collective test – 3 exercises – 60 minutes
  4. Oral expression: individual face-to-face test with an examiner – 3 exercises – 12 minutes

Fees


For full test with all four sections:

FIAF Member $350
Non Member $385

Fees must be paid in full at time of registration and are non-refundable. Please note there is a $5 administrative fee in addition to the exam fee.

Payment is made by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express).

You will receive another email with your official notification including precise exam times 7 days before the exam.

Exam session transfers are subject to a $50 fee and only permitted before the Registration Deadline of your original exam session. Any candidate who submits a transfer request after this Registration Deadline is subject to repay the full exam fee. Participation can only be transferred to the next session (without penalty) in the case of sickness, provided that a doctor’s note is mailed (not via email) within three days of the original Exam Date. If you have registered for an exam and need to transfer to another session, please email languagecenter@fiaf.org.

FIAF reserves the right to cancel a session due to weather inclement or if the number of candidates does not exceed 10. All registrations will be moved to the next session.
