Test d’Evaluation de Français Études

What is TEF Study?

Created in 1998 by the French Language Centre of the CCI Paris Ile-de-France, the TEF (Test d’Evaluation de Français) is an international benchmark test that measures a person’s level of knowledge and skills in French.

TEF Study is a specific version of the TEF. Officially recognized since 2004 by the French Ministry of National Education, TEF Study evaluates French-language skills in writing and speaking for any foreign student applying for an undergraduate enrollment in France.

It can also be used to certify a person’s level of French for work and during employee recruitment, as well as for internship/training or study abroad programs.

Applicants must meet the requirements for both oral and written tests of the TEF Study and obtain at least 14 out of 20 in the written expression test to be eligible for undergraduate studies in France.

TEF Study is composed of 4 tests:

  • Listening Comprehension : 40 min – 60 items
  • Reading Comprehension : 60 min – 50 items
  • Written Expression : 60 min – 2 topics to complete
