Job Title: Director of Preschool and Youth Programs

The FIAF Language Center is the largest language school dedicated to teaching the French language in the tri-state area. With more than 5,000 registrations annually, we offer French in two convenient locations: Manhattan’s Upper East Side and Montclair, NJ.

In conjunction with its adult French language learning program, FIAF offers French language learning programs for toddlers (ages 1-4), kids (5-10) and teens (11-17) from beginner to advanced levels, including French for native-speakers.

Our program offers a high level of language instruction through curricula that are specially designed to meet children’s pedagogical needs at every stage of their development. All our classes provide an integrated approach to French language and culture.

Since 2012, the FIAF Preschool has been offering a French immersion program for toddlers ages 2½ to 5 in two separate classes/classrooms.

Position Summary

The director of Preschool and Youth Programs, a full-time position, is responsible for the conception, development, organization and promotion of onsite and offsite youth programs and oversees the day to day operations of the FIAF preschool.

Main Responsibilities

The Director is committed to the highest level of customer service and strives to foster excellent public relations as a key motivation. The Director is under the direct supervision of the Vice President of Education of FIAF, and works with the other FIAF departments to ensure a coordinated and unified service.

· The Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the youth programs and the preschool: scheduling of classes and instructors, submission of proposals to clients, follow-up at the administrative and pedagogical levels, budgeting and billing, statistics, technology enhancements, reports and development of customized programs.

· The Director is responsible for the development of the preschool and youth programs client base: canvassing of clients, establishment of sales objectives, statistics, and creation of marketing campaigns and materials.

· The Director is responsible for the development of new products and services in response to evolving needs and ensures long-term planning of the service.

Additional Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Pedagogical Responsibilities

· Develop and enrich the youth programs class offerings, based on client survey and competition

· Organize and lead teacher training sessions

· Evaluate and improve teacher performance through classroom observations and coaching

· Stay current with the latest methodology, pedagogical resources and technology for the teaching of French as a foreign language to a young audience

· Stay current with the official French curricula for preschool’s instructions as well as teaching French as a foreign language (official curriculum of the French Ministry of Education and European Framework)

· Substitute for a teacher and conduct placement test occasionally

· Organize weekly meetings with the preschool staff

· Fine-tune the preschool’s curriculum and evaluations

Teachers Management/Human Resources

· Manage a team of about 20-30 part-time teachers in the youth programs

· Supervise a Youth Programs coordinator and a Preschool

· Advise teachers on pedagogy and available pedagogical resources

· Identify the training needs of the pedagogical team

· Recruit, train, and assist new instructors

Administrative tasks

· Schedule classes at the beginning of each session

· Assign classes to teachers

· Oversee enrollment in youth programs classes/workshops

· Assist with the registration/transfer process at the start of each session

· Ensure that classes run smoothly (supply orders, snacks etc)

· Hire and train new interns/volunteers/teachers etc

· Recruit new students/families and organize observation days for the preschool

Business Development

· Communicate program content and updates to parents and answer inquiries

· Foster a positive relationship between students, parents and instructors

· Stay current with the class offerings of our competitors for young French learners as well as with their marketing strategies (web content, etc) in order to establish FIAF as a leader in the field

· Participate in the elaboration and implementation of FIAF cultural programs for kids

· Collaborate with FIAF sponsors (kids programs)

· Nurture partnerships with youth literature and FLE publishers

Qualifications/Requirements

· Native French-speaker or equivalent proficiency

· Impeccable communication skills in English and French, both in writing and in

· Master 1 or 2 minimum in the field of teaching French as a foreign language or DAEFLE (diplôme d’aptitude à l’enseignement du français langue étrangère)

· An official teaching diploma (diplôme de professeur des écoles or equivalent) or NYS Certification a plus

· A minimum of two years’ experience in teaching French as a foreign language to a young audience

· Have good knowledge and understanding of the CEFRL (Common European Framework of Reference for the teaching of Foreign Languages) and the Ministry of Education curriculum for preschool

· Must be knowledgeable on pedagogy as it relates to French language instruction for children 1 to 17 years old

Responsibilities:

Qualifications

    • Education: Bachelors in a Communications, Marketing or related field preferred

Job Title: Part-Time Web Developer & Project Manager

FIAF is in the midst of rebuilding the FIAF website and the project needs strong IT support in order to be completed efficiently and effectively. We need an expert who can guide us with the development of the new site (working with an outside agency), make the best decisions for FIAF in terms of user experience/capabilities and help the agency implement our SEO strategy. This person would also help us work through any roadblocks in an efficient manner and timing.

Responsibilities:

  • Be the main point of contact with FIAF’s SEO and web development agency who is building the new site
  • Review site map and wire frames, collect feedback from FIAF’s internal team, and provide feedback and suggestions to agency for further development
  • Act as a go-between with FIAF’s web development agency and creative agency, to ensure that new designs are being effectively applied to the new website

Job Title: Full-Time Teacher
Department: Language Center Montclair
Reports To: Montclair Language Center Director
Designation: Exempt Full-time
Salary Range: $50,000-$60,000 depending on one’s experience and educational achievement

FIAF Montclair is looking for a full-time teacher of French as foreign language to teach French language classes to children (2 to 11 years old), teens (11 to 18 years old), and adults (18+ years old) from beginner to advanced levels including French for native speakers for the younger audiences (2 to 18 years old).

Schedules: Tuesday through Saturday (fall, winter and spring sessions), and Monday through Friday (summer session). 35 hours a week including teaching hours, and other pedagogical and administrative tasks. 12 weeks of paid time off

Responsibilities and Tasks

• Conduct research to develop age and level appropriate learning materials, language games, and other teaching aids to be incorporated in structured and creative lesson plans.
• Teach French in person and/or online to toddlers, teens and adults at various levels including for native French for native French speakers (toddlers, kids, and teens only).
• Use a variety of instructional methods relevant to the audience to stimulate the learning process and the students’ abilities, nurture cooperation and sharing.
• Assess students’ performance and progress to ensure they are mastering the skills on a regular basis.
• Organize learning material and resources.
• Cooperate with administration staff.
• Follow and comply with FIAF teaching standards.
• Assist with new students’ placement test.
• Proctor and grade official French exams (DELF, DALF, TCF, TEF, etc.)
• Attend regular meetings and trainings.
• Keep abreast of the latest trends and best practices in the field of teaching French as a foreign language.

Requirements and Skills

• Be eligible to work in the U.S.
• Be fluent in French.
• Be available to teach twice a week until 9PM on weekdays, and on Saturday from 9AM to 4:30PM during the fall, winter and spring sessions.
• Proven comparable experience as a Teacher of French as a foreign language.
• Have a love for teaching both children and adults.
• Be tech-savvy.
• Have excellent knowledge of the latest education theories and practices in the field of foreign language teaching.
• Have excellent knowledge of the French and Francophone cultures.
• Have strong communication skills.
• Master’s degree in teaching French as a foreign language or other relevant bachelor’s degree/certificate (Licence FLE, DAEFLE, or equivalent)
• Have great communication and organizational skills.
• Have patience and flexibility.
• Be Cool-tempered and have positive attitude.
• Be firm but have a kind personality.
• Having creative and artistic skills is a plus.

The Montclair Branch of the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) is looking for a full-time Assistant Teacher for its à petits pas Excellence program, a French immersion program for toddlers ages 2.5 and 5. The Assistant Teacher will be responsible for supporting the teachers with the planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate activities designed to promote social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth in preschool aged children. The position includes after-school care responsibilities.

Schedules: 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM including lunchtime. September to June. 183 days worked.

Responsibilities and Tasks

• Assist teachers in the implementation of the curriculum.
• Assist teachers with preparation of lesson plans.
• Assist teachers with the organization of classroom activities.
• Assist teachers with administrative tasks including but not limited to tracking students’ daily attendance, communicating with parents about daily classroom activities.
• Assist teachers in conducting part of the program remotely and online, if necessary.
• Assist teachers in maintaining a proper learning atmosphere.
• Prepare necessary material for classes.
• Supervise children during lunch time, recess, and nap time.
• Help children with daily tasks and activities.
• Help tidy up the classroom.
• Work with smaller groups of students for remedial teaching or reinforcing the learning process.
• Replace the group teacher when necessary.
• Provide for the physical safety of children through anticipation and removal of dangers, observation of children at play or at rest, and by appropriately responding to injuries.

Requirements and Skills

• Be eligible to work in the U.S.
• Be fluent in French.
• Have 1 year of comparable experience as a Teacher Assistant in a program for children under six years of age.
• Have a love for teaching children and the ability to build a trusting relationship with students, teachers, and parents.
• Be familiar with preschool administrative tasks and learning methods.
• Have great communication and organizational skills.
• Be Cool-tempered and have positive attitude.
• Be firm but have a kind personality.
• College or associate’s degree is preferred with some college credits in early childhood education or child development.

FIAF Montclair is looking for enthusiastic teachers of French as foreign language to teach French language and culture to young children, teens and adults. The teacher will plan, implement and assess lessons and will teach with patience and creativity. FIAF Montclair is a branch of the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) in Manhattan offering language-learning programs for adults, toddlers (ages 2-5), kids (5-11) and teens (11-18) from beginner to advanced levels, including French for native-speakers. Responsibilities

  • Teach French classes in person Tuesday through Saturday. Teaching hours can be scheduled Tuesday through Friday between 7:30am and 3:30pm, between 9:45am and 5:45pm, or between 1:15pm and 9:15pm, and Saturday between 8:45am and 4:45pm. Teaching schedules can change from session to session.
  • Design and follow a complete teaching plan about French language and culture
  • Use a variety of activities and instructional methods relevant to the audience to stimulate the learning process and the students’ abilities
  • Monitor students’ interactions in the classroom and nurture cooperation and sharing
  • Assess students’ performance and progress to ensure they are mastering the skills on regular basis
  • Organize learning material and resources
  • Cooperate with administration staff
  • Follow and comply with FIAF teaching standards
  • Assist with new students’ placement test
  • Assist in the development and organization of educational, cultural and social activities to help grow the FIAF members’ community in its Montclair, NJ location
  • Participate in development and collaboration for events within and outside of FIAF to attract new students and members

Qualifications:

  • Native French-speaker or equivalent proficiency, ability to communicate clearly in English
  • Proven working experience as a teacher of French as a foreign language including an experience in teaching French to young learners
  • Excellent knowledge of latest education theories and practices in the field of foreign language teaching
  • Excellent knowledge of the French and Francophone cultures
  • Creative and artistic teaching abilities
