FIAF’s mission is to create and offer audiences innovative and unique programs in education and the arts that explore the evolving diversity and richness of French languages and Francophone culture. FIAF presents film screenings, performances, talks, exhibitions, wine tastings, and social events. FIAF is also home to the leading, private French library in the U.S. and is the only language school in New York solely dedicated to teaching French. Job Title: Human Resources Manager
Department: Administration
Reports To: CFO/VP of Finance and Administration
Designation: Full-Time (Salary Range $75,000 – $90,000)

Position Summary: The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) seeks an experienced candidate for the open position of Human Resources Manager. Under the direction of the CFO/Vice President of Finance and Administration, the Human Resources Manager is responsible for all FIAF Human Resource activities. This person will be responsible for a warm and congenial staff of around 60 full-time and 150 part-time employees. Responsibilities include recruiting, talent management, benefits administration, employee relations, performance management, pay administration, policy development and visa applications.

Main Responsibilities

  • Oversee and support HR department in all areas of human resources including but not limited to recruiting, talent management, benefits administration, employee relations, performance management, payroll and timekeeping, retirement administration, compliance, and immigration/visa process
  • Partner with management to ensure strategic HR goals are aligned with business initiatives
  • Coach and counsel managers and employees on company policies and practices, staffing, HR processes, performance management and conflict resolution. Serves as liaison between managers/employees and payroll to facilitate resolution of compensation and benefits related issues
  • Employee development at all levels, including coaching and counseling, facilitation, and mentoring
  • Consult with legal counsel as appropriate
  • Work with immigration attorney on non-immigrant visas, including H1-B, Q-1, and J-1 visas
  • Manage Reception Desk and personnel
  • Handle all terminations and COBRA administration
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local employee regulations
  • Investigate employee issues and conflicts and bring them to resolution
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or Business with 3 years’ experience in HR
    administration, supervisory experience a plus
  • Previous experience as an HR Generalist required
  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification (or equivalent) helpful, but not essential
  • Strong knowledge of benefits administration
  • 3 years of payroll and timekeeping experience, ADP WorkforceNow a plus.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office: Excel, Word
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Ability to interact with employees at all levels of an organization
  • Must demonstrate a strong capacity to work in a team environment
  • Bilingual – fluency in both English and French

Range: $75,000 – $90,000 – based on experience

Job Title: Bookkeeper
Department: Finance & Administration
Reports To: Comptroller
Designation: Non-Exempt Full-time (Salary Range $48,000 – $54,000)

Position Summary: The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) seeks a candidate for the open position of Bookkeeper. Under the direction of the Comptroller, the Bookkeeper will be responsible for general accounting and bookkeeping responsibilities as well as assisting the team with various projects.

Main responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Enter day to day financial transactions, including verifying, classifying, posting, and recording accounts receivables’ data
  • Process credit card payment for clients
  • Prepare weekly bank deposits
  • Prepare invoices for other departments as needed
  • Process invoices by posting them to the correct ledger in QuickBooks
  • Review employees expense reports for proper approval, coding, and accuracy
  • Maintain historical records by accurately filing accounting and financial related documents
  • Manage petty cash
  • Other bookkeeping/clerical duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • BS or Associate degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration desired (in progress or completed)
  • Previous experience in bookkeeping or accounting
  • Experience and working knowledge of QuickBooks and Excel
  • Hard worker who can be self-starter, but still works well in a team environment
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Deadline and detail-oriented

FIAF Montclair is looking for enthusiastic teachers of French as foreign language to teach French language and culture to young children, teens and adults. The teacher will plan, implement and assess lessons and will teach with patience and creativity. FIAF Montclair is a branch of the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) in Manhattan offering language-learning programs for adults, toddlers (ages 2-5), kids (5-11) and teens (11-18) from beginner to advanced levels, including French for native-speakers. Responsibilities

  • Teach French classes in person Tuesday through Saturday. Teaching hours can be scheduled Tuesday through Friday between 7:30am and 3:30pm, between 9:45am and 5:45pm, or between 1:15pm and 9:15pm, and Saturday between 8:45am and 4:45pm. Teaching schedules can change from session to session.
  • Design and follow a complete teaching plan about French language and culture
  • Use a variety of activities and instructional methods relevant to the audience to stimulate the learning process and the students’ abilities
  • Monitor students’ interactions in the classroom and nurture cooperation and sharing
  • Assess students’ performance and progress to ensure they are mastering the skills on regular basis
  • Organize learning material and resources
  • Cooperate with administration staff
  • Follow and comply with FIAF teaching standards

  • Assist in the development and organization of educational, cultural and social activities to help grow the FIAF members’ community in its Montclair, NJ location

Benefits
All employees receive earned sick leave. Teachers working at least 800 hours within a calendar year receive PTO. Teachers working 1000+ hours within a calendar year receive PTO and are eligible for health insurance.
